The Memory of Elijah Josiah Gilmore
Elijah Josiah Gilmore – A Bright Light, Forever in Our Hearts
Elijah Josiah Gilmore was born on July 14, 2011, at Norwalk Hospital and was affectionately known as “EJ” to those who loved him. From an early age, he was eager to learn, had a strong sense of what he liked (including his firm stance against meat!), and brought boundless energy wherever he went.
EJ developed a deep love for swimming, showing no fear in the water—so much so that he would cry when lessons ended. His radiant smile had the power to touch hearts, and he thrived on making new friends, especially at the splash pad at Norwalk’s Ryan’s Park.
As he grew, EJ embraced new adventures, including riding to work with his father each morning to attend preschool at Naramake, housed within Norwalk High School. He cherished his Spider-Man backpack and lunch bag, excited for school even as he navigated the challenges of sharing his teacher’s attention with 15 other students. Over time, he learned patience, teamwork, and independence, milestones that made his family proud.
By the time of his untimely passing, EJ had blossomed into a true “big boy,” taking the bus to school and serving as a teacher’s helper. Each day, he came home with stories about his friends, school activities, and his latest artistic creations—his teachers even called him “an artist in the making.” He loved celebrations, often asking, “Is it my birthday yet?” His favorite holiday was Christmas, and he eagerly helped decorate the tree in anticipation of December 25th.
EJ was an amazing son, grandson, great-grandson, nephew, and friend. His heart was full of love, which he gave freely and unconditionally. His legacy of joy, learning, and kindness will continue to shine through the Elijah Josiah Gilmore Memorial Scholarship, ensuring that his spirit lives on in the opportunities created for others.
